M E D I C I N E update: TEST PRESSINGS

You can see it on the video above: test pressings are at my house! I have been listening, meticulously.

{ Test pressings are like print proofs for art, but for vinyl. It’s a way of making sure everything is just right before the bulk manufacturing. }

I have been listening listening listening to my music on VINYL! VINYL!!! VINYL!

HAVE I TOLD YOU WE ARE MAKING VINYL????

I KNOW I HAVE BUT, STILL….V I N Y L!

{ *Wait until I show you the art!!!! I am saving it for the moment, but you’ll be the first to see!* }

If you had told four-year old me that one day SHE (we/I) would have her (our/my) * very * own * P I N K * record *, she (we/I) would have been speechless, excited, stunned.

Last last week, the night before my birthday, when I first put the arm down and heard the mild crackle of my very own first vinyl pressing, something deep inside of me said “oh hey girl—THIS is the dream, right here.”

This. Right. Here.

Shawn and I listened and ate vanilla ice cream right there on the floor of our living room.

And then, the next day, I turned 40.

{ ?!

I honestly don’t even know what to make of turning 40, but felt to include it, because somehow it’s part of this.

What even is time, though? I don’t super relate to it, but my body is in it and subject to the vagaries and limitations of it…? }

Anyhow, philosophy aside!

Speaking of time—very shortly, you’ll be able to pre-order the VINYL.

It will be a limited edition, 180 grams (to prevent warping), and, obviously, PINK.

We’ll have that link and more info up within the next month or so!

Also, semi-related —here is one of my favorite pictures from the album art photo shoot:

What is Leadership? podcast - Ep. 54, Medicine with Kathleen Smith

Back in February, shortly before leaving for all the big record things in Los Angeles (recording session! photo shoot! awards show!), I got to chat it up with the brilliant Chela Davison for her podcast, What is Leadership?, and now you can listen wherever you do your podcast thang (or even watch! on YouTube!).

We talked about art, the new record MEDICINE (10.10.23!!!!), being a woman in this world, living as a visionary, the vertical alignment required to follow one's heart, and the possibility of being a bridge between heaven and earth. Plus a bunch of other stuff!

I swore a lot (sorry y'all!! it happens when I feel fiery!) and then performed "I Can See For Miles" on Princess (the white piano) at the very end.

Chela is an *incredible* coach for revolutionaries and visionaries and folks who are here to DO THE THING, and I highly recommend that you join her mailing list if you like inspiration and support for all that good stuff, plus excellent writing--she is an inspiring writer!!! {Also, she’s not on social media, so the mailing list is the place.}

YouTube link below, in case you feel like watching us instead of just listening:

5 THINGS - GRAB BAG

  1. “I’m a Luddite, and So Can You” - an article about AI & unions, and how they’re related.

  2. Glaze - I’m waiting with bated breath for the musical version of this—it’s a way to make your art difficult/impossible for AI to replicate. THANK YOU, genius humans who invented this.

  3. Shrinking on Apple TV - recently binged & recommend thoroughly. (this is the trailer)

  4. Shrill on Hulu - If I haven’t told you yet about Shrill, oops, my BAD. Feminist, humanist, hilarious, intelligent. Just yes. A million times yes. I’ve watched the entirety of all seasons at least three times and I keep meaning to check the book out from the library!

  5. I’d Gladly Do It All Again, by Haleigh Bowers - the *entire* album is pristine. I recommend especially if you’re looking for tunes for crying your guts out. I listened twice in a row on Thanksgiving when I was laid up with Covid round 2. Her songwriting knocks me to the floor, and the production on this record is brilliant. Okay okay, I know I’m over-hyping it. It’s just my opinion, man.

okay, whew, you made it to the end!
