Sometimes I fear it can feel tone-deaf or trite to say to you “We’ll be singing some songs—come on out next week” when so much is happening in the world at large—hurricanes flooding war elections suffering suffering suffering you name it etc etc—AND but also, I actually know that we can only tend to our little corner of the universe, and the most good we do is done with our individual and unique magic.
If everyone picks up the trash on her little corner of the beach, then the beach gets clean!! Ya know?
Plus, we are each other’s medicine.

MEDICINE TURNED ONE TWO DAYS AGO, WHAAAAAT
I wanted to write a big ol’ essay (you know me) about MEDICINE turning one two days ago on 10.10.24, and then I posted on Instagram just now (Friday afternoon) about it and also about RITUAL next week, and I ended up writing a little blurb that I actually really like, so I’ve repurposed it below, with a few slight tweaks.
{While I was tweaking, I started writing a giant thing, but I’m still wrestling it into submission—I mean… dancing with it into just-rightness—so we’ll save the essay-as-miniature-novel version for another time.}

MEDICINE TURNED ONE YESTERDAY AND EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE NOW.
JUST KIDDING.
I am human--it's mostly all just mystery to me, still.
But really—my sweet little baby of a pink daydream record did turn 1 on the tenth of this month, and though I knew—for weeks, months, a year, in fact—that it was coming up, I did not, could not, did not have it in me, to drum up some whatever event or livestream or shenanigans to celebrate, but I did take the day off to treat a recently married girlfriend to a day of hot springs, and we soaked under the slowly changing yellow cottonwood leaves and ate gluten free pizza and laughed and lay around and worked on our tans for a little October minute, and after we left I splashed out on some new makeup and invited the Clinique lady {angel, really} to RITUAL next week after she tended to me and put magical paint on my face with her gentle fingers.
I drove home in the 5 o'clock sun, northeast in traffic with everyone else, listening to the new Coldplay record and chatting internally with 16 year old Kathleen who couldn't wait to get out of her small town and make something beautiful of her life— “girl, do you see this life we have now???”—and what a shock and delight that even after all these years worshipping at the altar of Love and Sacred Beauty Medicine, even after all this time and all those red rose petals offered up, I am still learning—there is still so much more to learn and love and grow into—HOW DO I DO A SMOKEY EYE, for instance—and you can probably tell this isn't just about makeup—nothing is really ever that simple or pat—how could it be when everything is everything and we're all just cells in the body of Life—but I’m telling you, there really was something about the music {it’s a gorgeous record, Coldplay's most recent, I mean (though MEDICINE, too, come to think of it)}—and the breeze through my car windows, after a day spent under majestic trees in the water under the sun with a girlfriend, and isn't that what MEDICINE is all about anyways?
