WHY BUY VINYL WHEN I CAN JUST STREAM?
Well, if holding the nice, warp-proof (that’s what 180g is!) baby pink vinyl in your hands and reading the glossy, full-color liner notes while listening to the warm sound of an actual record stream from your speakers doesn’t speak to you (no pun intended), no problemo—it’s not for everyone.
Aside from the visceral pleasures of materiality and being able to hold music in your hands, though, buying merchandise directly from an artist like me…
helps me make—i.e. pays for—more of the art that you love.
I’m working right now on an essay about the value of music, and how much independent artists like me get paid from streaming (spoiler alert: nearly nothing), and how much making records like LOVE SUPERSTAR and MEDICINE costs (spoiler alert: very much NOT nothing), but it’s still in draft form, and this is not the moment.*
When you buy merchandise *directly* from an artist like me, you help pay for more art to be made!
In this case, the revenue from sales of this physical record (and digital as well, if that’s your thing) will go towards the next music video, which we are shooting in Palm Springs in December. (more on that in a later Love Blast!)
